Body Mass Index (BMI) Calculator

Description

The Body Mass Index (BMI) Calculator helps you assess your body weight relative to your height. It is a useful tool for identifying potential weight problems in adults. The BMI is calculated using your weight and height, providing a numerical value that indicates whether you are underweight, normal weight, overweight, or obese. Please note that BMI does not directly measure body fat, and factors like muscle mass and distribution of fat can affect its interpretation.

How to Use

  1. Select your preferred unit system (metric or imperial).
  2. Enter your weight in the appropriate field (kg or lb).
  3. Select your height using the dropdown menu (m or ft/in).
  4. Click the "Calculate BMI" button to see your BMI value and receive health recommendations.

How to Calculate BMI Manually

To manually calculate your Body Mass Index (BMI), use the following formula:

  1. For metric units: BMI = weight (kg) / (height (m))^2
  2. For imperial units: BMI = (weight (lb) / (height (in))^2) * 703
  3. Interpret the BMI value according to the categories:
    • Underweight: BMI less than 18.5
    • Normal weight: BMI between 18.5 and 24.9
    • Overweight: BMI between 25 and 29.9
    • Obese: BMI 30 or greater

Example

Suppose you weigh 70 kg and your height is 1.7 m:

  1. BMI = 70 / (1.7^2) ≈ 24.22
  2. BMI Category: Normal weight
